A Day in the Life of Our Residents

Rubislaw Park Care Home is a high-end luxury care home in the West End of Aberdeen. Rubislaw Park offers Nursing, Residential, Respite, and Dementia care, for up to 86 residents.

All of our luxury bedrooms and en-suites are tastefully decorated and the interiors are carefully thought out. Residents are encouraged to add their own personal belongings to give the bedrooms their own unique touch, this ensures that the residents have a home-from-home experience.

At Rubislaw Park Care Home we offer a range of different facilities for our residents. We offer an abundance of different restaurants and lounge areas, a modern bar area as well as beautifully landscaped gardens. Our residents are encouraged to embrace the wide range of amenities we have to offer, as an opportunity to spend time together and to enjoy the communal areas.

We recognise the importance that our activities programme has on our residents as it allows them to embrace their independence. Our residents are often exploring a variety of new activities, whether it is joining in our arts and crafts sessions or making use of the weekly outings into the local community.

We always have exciting entertainment to offer our residents at Rubislaw Park and are incredibly grateful to be able to regularly invite members of the community into our home. It allows our residents to sit back and relax, and watch something truly worthwhile.

Mornings at Rubislaw Park

If you’re a creature of habit and enjoy nothing more than a cuppa in bed then that is exactly what we will provide you with.

At Rubislaw Park our days start at 8:00 am, offering our residents a cooked or continental breakfast. Our breakfasts are served until 10:00 am, and residents have the option to enjoy in one of our restaurant areas or in their own rooms. At all times we assure to accommodate the residents' own requests around dietary requirements, individual menus can be created upon request.

Once everyone has eaten breakfast, residents are then encouraged to create their own individual or group activities to make use of the facilities at Rubislaw Park.

Residents have the option to read their favourite newspaper or listen to a radio station of choice with the comfortable chairs provided. This is an opportunity for residents to catch up on the news or to mull over the weather. The plethora of activities available are vast and can vary from a hand and foot massage, an exercise class taken either in one of the lounges or courtyards or a stroll around the grounds checking in on the wildlife and raised flower beds.

Residents can also take advantage of our in-house hairdresser that caters for all of our resident’s beauty needs, independent reading in our library, or carefully selecting a film in our cinema room and settling in for a morning of self-care and relaxation.

What We Get Up To in the Afternoon

Between 12:15 pm and 13:30 pm, our residents gather together to have their lunchtime meal. Lunchtime is an opportunity for our residents to get together with one another to share a tasty meal and lots of lovely memories. We assure our residents receive nutritious, home-cooked meals and regularly consult with our residents to ensure that they are happy with the options we have available. We also like to offer an abundance of snacks and beverages throughout the day, for those who do not wish to consume a whole meal or add to regular meals.

After our residents have finished their lunch, our activities coordinator will create a new and exciting activity for all of the residents to participate in at their own choice. We have a variety of different activities available for our residents to choose from thanks to our extensive activities programme. This could be a trip out in our minibus to the local community, or a visit to the local garden centre, the beach, or a local park which is always our residents’ favourite!

We actively encourage our residents to participate in group activities. We recognise the importance fun, physical and mentally stimulating activities have on our residents. This is why we aim to make no day the same and motivate our residents to try new tasks. Whether it is playing games, or making use of the recreational area we have to offer our key focus is making sure our residents are constantly living life to the fullest.

There is plenty of music played throughout our home at Rubislaw Park, which helps to evoke memories, many a time you’ll see residents getting up and dancing with a team member or fellow resident! This is especially evident on Tuesday afternoons when we hold our dementia choir meetings. This is an opportunity for some of our residents to meet up for their usual singsong in the bar area.

The team at Rubislaw Park is highly skilled across every department and works very closely with other allied professionals to ensure every need is met and support everyday tasks that were perhaps becoming difficult whilst at home.

How We Enjoy Our Evenings

Between 17:00 and 18:30, our residents will be provided with a delicious meal. Residents often enjoy helping to prepare the evening meal by cutting vegetables and laying the table to continue with their at-home habits and maintain a degree of independence. If one-to-one support is needed, a staff member will sit with a resident to help them eat at a comfortable pace.

Once dinner time eventually passes, residents often spend time in the communal areas participating in games such as quizzes or bingo. We encourage our residents to join in on games night to get a little competitive with their neighbours. The residents and team at Rubislaw Park are a tight family unit, which is why we treat our competitions like ‘Family Game Night’ where everyone is invited to play as an opportunity to enhance their relationships with one another.
