A December Full of Festivities
December is a special time at Rubislaw Park, as the decorations go up and our staff work extremely hard to ensure all residents get into the festive spirit. This year, our December activity calendar has been jam-packed with a number of activities, from pampering sessions and afternoon teas, to quizzes and Christmas crafts.
Coffee Mornings and Pamper Sessions
On the 3rd December, we kickstarted the festivities with the first of our coffee mornings and pamper sessions for the month. We strongly support the overall wellbeing of our residents, so our salon team got to work and offered our residents treatments such as manicures and hair styling to help them relax and get prepared in the lead up to Christmas.
Some of our residents were also kindly invited by The Aberdeen Life Centre, to join in with their annual Christmas party. Our residents were treated to a fabulous three-course lunch, followed by a raffle, dancing and entertainment including Pipers. It was a great event where fun was had by all.
The day then ended back at Rubislaw Park where our residents took part in happy hour with nibbles and a lot more dancing!
Christmas Crafts & Choir Practice
Our residents are extremely fond of the arts & crafts sessions we hold throughout the year, but they are extremely well-loved at Christmas time. This month we have held a number of sessions where our residents have participated in colouring, card-making and creating table pieces. We always encourage our residents to get involved in our creative activities as they have immense benefits on their social, mental and physical wellbeing. The residents have a fantastic time, especially when there is tea and biscuits involved!
Our choir practice has also took a festive turn this month as the members of our Edelweiss Choir have been enjoying singing a mix of songs, including some well-known Christmas classics.
Bingo Sessions & Quizzes
At every opportunity we can, we like to host games such as bingo, and quizzes as a way to bring all the residents and staff together for a bit of fun. For many of our residents, playing games like bingo and taking part in quizzes is part of their interests and hobbies. At Rubislaw Park, we pay great attention to what our residents enjoy doing, so that we can incorporate it into our activities programme and so that they can continue to do the things they love.
Our Christmas Parties
On the 10th December, residents and staff alike gathered to enjoy our Christmas parties within the home. Staff donned their festive jumpers and our catering team put on a delicious spread for all to enjoy. After an indulgent lunch, celebrations continued with dancing, mulled wine and Santa handing out gifts to our lovely residents.
The Christmas Raffle
The festivities have carried on well throughout the month, and on the 20th December we drew our Christmas raffle, where lots of goodies were won and fantastically, over £400 was raised. We also received a heart-warming delivery on this day; Christmas cards from the children of Broomhill School. Our residents faces lit up with the sheer amount of cards we received, all beautifully decorated and written.
It is safe to say that everyone at Rubislaw Park has done a wonderful job at getting into the Christmas spirit and fun has been had by all as we continue to countdown to the big day.
